1989 GAYP Open National

 held at Trace Inn, Tupelo, MS  - June 25 - 30th, 1989

Copied from ACF # 220 August 1989, pg 10...  GAYP National Checker Tournament Results...   Twenty seven players participated in the National GAYP Tournament held at Trace Inn in Tupelo Mississippi the last week in June.  Eight youth players participated in a one day tournament.  The winners in the Master Division were:  Ron King - 1st, Elbert Lowder - 2nd, James Morrison - 3rd, Ron Bailey - 4th, Les Balderson, Tim Laverty, Arnold Cook, and Ralph Agee tied for 5th place with Raleigh Johnson in 9th, Vic Defenderfer in 10th and Noel Boland in 11th place.  In the Majors the results were as follows:  John Byrns - 1st, Ray Brown and George Waldon tied for 2nd, W. E. Williams, Tom Stegall and Crawford Crabtree tied for 4th, Malcolm Stancil - 7th, Ray Scott, J. Butler, R.B. Brauy, Wade Holder, and Gayle Helterbrand tied for 8th, A. P. Collins, D. C. Taylor, Cully Walker, and Howard Floyd all tied for 14th place.  Brian Lucas won the Youth GAYP Tournament.
